PROGRAM AND BUDGET CUTS Due to city and state funding cuts to Project Machson, we are currently unable to accept furniture and clothing donations. Please help us restore this program by donating or taking action. |
Met Council’s Home Services helps the most vulnerable in our community live in their homes with safety, dignity and comfort. For Holocaust survivors living in unsafe communities, our Handyman service will replace their door locks. For poor families who need furnishings, Project Machson provides new and gently used furniture as well as good quality clothing. For seniors who need a grab bar in their shower to protect themselves from falling, Project Metropair will install one free of charge.
Project Machson: Bringing Resources to People in Need
Through the Machson Mobile, a converted van that serves as a mobile clothing shop, we have brightened the lives of thousands of individuals and families in need throughout New York City.
- In a typical month, 55 families make furniture or clothing donations to Machson and 191 individuals receive donations.
- Each year during Hanukah, Project Machson distributes toys to more than 6,000 children.
| “Met Council has been very, very good to me. They fixed my boiler; they also put a faucet in my bathroom. I am very grateful.” - Client |
Project Metropair: Keeping Seniors Safe at Home
Project Metropair makes home visits to people who need minor home repairs for safety and security. Each year, we help more than 4,000 people remain independent.
- In an average month, our handymen provide about 620 hours of repairs.
- 1,700 frail seniors and Holocaust survivors a year receive services to make their homes or apartments safer and more secure
