Volunteer - Ongoing Projects

 

Volunteer lunch

Met Council has many ongoing volunteer projects that can fit all ages and abilities. They have varying amounts of required commitment, so find the one that is the best fit for you.

FEED THE HUNGRY
Soup Kitchen Servers
Sundays, 3:30PM-9PM
Flatbush, Brooklyn
Volunteers duties will include set-up, sign-in, serving and clean-up.
Food Distribution
Fridays, 9-12:30PM
JCC of Washington Heights

Volunteers distribute special Friday evening meals to seniors. Transportation is available to clients' homes.
Soup Kitchen Cooks
Sunday - Thursday, 8AM-2PM
Flatbush, Brooklyn

Our free restaurant in Flatbush needs volunteers to help cook! Volunteers are needed to do basic cooking prep such as cleaning, pealing and dicing produce and much more.
Senior Lunch Program
Sundays, 12PM-3PM
Eastside Manhattan
Give a hot lunch and a bright smile to a senior citizen!  Responsibilities include setting and cleaning up, serving lunch, and – most importantly – socializing with our senior clients.  Do a good mitzvah while having fun on a Sunday afternoon!
   
VOLUNTEER FROM HOME
Partners in Conversation
Volunteers make phone calls to new immigrants to help them prepare for the workplace and get comfortable with conversational English.
Knitting 
Knit and donate mittens, hats and scarves to keep our clients warm. A great project for a knitting group!
Phone Pals
Volunteers make weekly calls to homebound seniors.
Sunshine Greeting Cards
Make cheery greeting cards for homebound seniors.
   
MAKE A BIG IMPACT
Volunteer Leaders Needed!
Want to get more involved as a volunteer?  Volunteer as an event leader and supervisor for exciting volunteer activities such as BINGO and game nights at Met Council residences!  No experience needed, training provided.
Teachable Skills
Met Council is seeking skilled volunteers to lead workshops for our clients. Skills can include anything from financial planning to career services to home repairs to workplace fashion.
   
A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY
Appointment Buddies
Volunteers accompany senior clients to doctors appointments. This can be a one-time or on-going volunteer opportunity.
